YOUTH TO THE POWER OF TWO

There was a bit of history made on Saturday as Newbridge Youth put out 2 teams at the same time for the first time.  On the Canal Fields at 1:30 the Youth took on Resolven Youth and with a much depleted squad and a few players stepping into unfamiliar roles they did superbly to be in the lead at half time.  There were injuries to Alastair Crockett and Kian Chess and the team were down to 13 and even 12 at the end of the game.  Everyone would like to wish both injured players a quick recovery. Resolven took full advantage of their additional numbers to run in two late tries taking the score to 26-17. Newbridge tries were scored by Chess and Ewan Roberts.  Roberts got the conversion.

At 2:30 on the Pant Field the Youth took on Penallta in their first Dragons “A” Division league match.  Nathan Evans, Callum Cottle, Dylan Bartlett, Luke Shore and Ollie Howard all made their first appearances for the team this season.  Shore got 2 tries and each of the other debutants got one try.  The 1st try had been scored by Captain Euan Lewis and Iwan Burgwin converted 4 times to give a 43-8 final score.  Ethan Chess also returned to the side for the first time this season and the benefit of running an U17s team was once again to the fore as Bartlett, Howard, Robbie Turley, Dylan Shorthouse, Joel Gilbert, Matthew Jones, Dylan Davies, James Tidmarsh and Elliott Haines all made their Youth League debuts.

The team would like to congratulate William Griffiths who has become a Dragons Academy player and as such was selected for Cross Keys in this weekends win over Ebbw Vale.  In addition, our oldest player Gibson Rooke (who turned 18 just last Thursday) made his first senior appearance  on Saturday turning out for West Mon Old Boys.
