YOUTH'S BIG WEEKEND

After last weeks cancellation by the opposition The Youth begin their preparations for the 3 division jump into the Dragons Youth “A” League with the visit of Blues “A” League team Mountain Ash this Saturday.  The game will be played at the Pant Fields and with a 3:00pm kick off.

Before all that though, Youth player William Griffiths, will add to his caps against France and England this year, by taking up the hooking duties for Wales U18s against South Africa Schools in Stellenbosch on Friday.

Saturday’s playing squad will not only be without Griff but also the many lads representing the Dragons U18’s against RGC U18’s at Ystrad Mynach on Sunday.  Involved in that match will be: props Nathan Evans, Taylor Hansen, Owen Peddle and Dylan Bartlett, hooker Zach Hewlett, flankers Jack Littlejohns and Matthew Jefferies,  No.8 Garin Price, scrum half Dylan Davies, outside half Iwan Burgwin, wing Luke Shore and full back Joel Witcombe.

Training for the Youth has been incredibly well attended over the last few weeks with 30 players plus at each session.  Without any 3rd year Youth players the team will once again be going against teams older than themselves in a very tough league and in the majority of their friendlies.  However with the 3 trophy success of last season the then 1st year youth team demonstrated that it can be about quality rather than size and age in youth rugby.  Bolstered by the new U17s team there is now a real sense of depth of quality to enhance the excellent playing squad which at times had been down in numbers due to injury and availability.
