Tourists - Bourne RFC

NEWBRIDGE YOUTH  52  BOURNE RFC 0

Tourists from Peterborough, Bourne RFC, were given a warm but ultimately unforgiving welcome, by the Youth to The Welfare.  Player availability meant the Youth had to start the game fielding an unusual line up.  However such is the strength of depth in the squad that starting scrum-half Zach Morgan at 10, flanker Morgan Thomas at prop, flanker Jack Littlejohns at lock and drafting in under 16 player Kian Chess at hooker, had no real effect on the organisation and usual standards the boys have set themselves.

This was demonstrated within the first few plays.   Within 3 minutes of kick off Alistair Crockett crossed for the first score.  Morgan at outside half bossed the game superbly setting the exciting backs free at every opportunity.  Chess was huge in the game, if not in stature, as the youngster carried with real determination making good ground at every attempt.  He slotted right in as he hit the lineout targets and fielded a number of high kick offs.

Scrum half Cole Jones injured an ankle and the backline reshuffled with centre Ioan Lloyd coming on at 10. Morgan moved in to the more accustomed 9 role.  Bourne weren’t allowed the ball too often and consequently they struggled to gain any sort of territorial advantage.  Flanker Tyler Smith moved up into the front row in the second half and still the Youth made good ground at scrum time.

A further 9 tries were scored. They came from: Littlejohns, Jones, Tyler Price, Tyler Lewis, Tom Deinko, Dafydd Clissett, Jack Davies, Cae Richings and special mention to George Price who got his first of the season for the team.  Only the last try was converted and that was by Chess for a 52-0 final score.  The team have scored over 600 points including 101 tries in their 19 matches this year.

The lads wish their colleagues Taylor Hansen, Will Griffiths, Zach Hewlett, Nathan Evans and Iwan Burgwin a successful trip to the Ospreys on Wednesday night as they line up for the Dragons U18s.

Next weeks visitors are Bargoed Youth for a league fixture.  This will probably take place on the Canal Fields while the firsts play their rearranged league fixture against Glamorgan Wanderers on The Welfare.
